Subdermal Needle Electrodes
Color Coding Guide
Advances in technology during the past several years now allow simultaneous, multimodality monitoring and has vastly increased number of channels on today’s monitoring equipment. Those two factors, in addition to the emergence of motor pathway monitoring, mean that clinicians are responsible for placing significantly more electrodes per case than ever before.
To help you deal with the increased demands, complexity and sheer number of electrodes that these trends have brought to the OR, Rhythmlink has designed our single and paired subdermal disposable EEG needle electrodes to help make your time in the OR easier, more efficient and safer…all of which leads to what really matters: improved patient care.
Color Coding for Single Needle Electrodes
Our single subdermal needle electrodes come in a variety of colors. Single needle electrodes are available in boxes of six colors (red, black, white, blue, green and yellow) and 12 colors (red, black, white, blue, green, yellow, light blue, orange, pink, gray, brown and purple).
All of these color options allow you to match specific anatomical sites with specific electrode colors.
For instance, your practice can now link the white and blue single needle electrodes to C3’ and C4’ respectively. Yellow and orange can be used for CZ’ and CS' (cervical spine). There are a myriad of ways your practice can set this up and benefit.
Color Coding for Paired Needle Electrodes
Our paired needle electrodes have even greater color coding abilities. A black or white electrode is matched with one of our 10 remaining colors to give you 20 unique pair combinations and a host of color coding options.
To give you an example of how pairs are effective as color coding devices, please refer to this example:

Begin by defining all the white paired electrodes as referring to the right side of the body (white=right side). All pairs containing a black electrode refer to the left side of the body (black=left side). Now take Rhythmlink’s paired needle electrode with the white and green colored lead wires and link the green electrode with an anatomical site (i.e. gastrocnemius). We know that white refers to the right side of the body and green refers to the gastrocnemius so when you see a white/green paired electrode, you know that this paired electrode should be in the right gastrocnemius.
Summary
By combining our 12 colors that our single needle electrodes offer with the 20 color combinations available with our pairs, your practice can uniquely color code up to 32 anatomical sites.
